 Boris Oblak, caricature artist

I first came across the art of drawing people in a humorous manner while studying Art Pedagogy. Heartened by positive responses to my awkward first attempts, I was encouraged to make a more serious effort with (colour) pencils. These days, the pencils are mostly used by my son and daughter, while I have set out to explore the captivating world of the digital painting technique. The latter has inspired me in most of my work of recent years.

By organising the Caricature Festival in Šubic House – the Šubic Painters Culture Centre in the village of Poljane nad Škofjo Loko – I strive to promote the Slovenian art of caricatures. While these efforts have contributed to the recognisability of the beautiful Poljanska dolina Valley, the caricatures are also paving the way for a new type of tourism, i.e. caricatourism.

I enjoy music and making of simple musical instruments, and take great pleasure in sharing my knowledge with others at creative workshops.
